All About Dubai!
For my Malay Reader.
Bagi mereka yang belum pernah ke Dubai dan sedang tercari-cari maklumat, saya kongsikan serba sedikit info tentang Dubai, berdasarkan maklumat yang saya dapati dari pencarian maklumat di internet sebelum saya ke sana dan juga pengalaman sendiri ~ setelah saya menjejakkan kaki ke sana.
Mula-mula kena tahu ini ya.
Fast Facts:
Airport
Dubai International Airport has 3 main terminals. The fastest connection to central Dubai is with the cream-coloured official taxis, which take 20-25 minutes to the centre and cost around 50-70 Dirhams. The government owned RTA operates all public transport services, and the Metro is the cheapest way to leave the airport – you'll find stations at Terminals 1 and 3. Alternately, there are buses outside Terminals 1 and 2 that stop within walking distance of most hotels.
Metro
Dubai's Metro system is very efficient and the two main red and green lines connect most districts. Metro stations are easily identifiable by their golden oval roofs. Purchase a ticket at machines in the foyer. Metro trains operate between 06:00-23:00 from Monday to Thursday, from 14:00-00:00 on Fridays and 06:00-23:00 on weekends. Tickets cost between AED 2 - 6 per single journey; alternately, purchase a chargeable 'Nol' card from machines or ticket offices.
Bus
Dubai has an extensive air-conditioned bus service that connects most of the city. There are 9 main bus stations and many stops throughout the city. Buses are bright red with 'Dubai Bus' emblazoned at the front. Tickets can be purchased on board (or by swiping in and out with a 'Nol' card). A journey from one side of Dubai to the other typically costs around AED 4.50 one-way. It’s best to take the metro if you're travelling during peak hours (07:00-10:00 or 17:00-19:00).
Taxi
Taxis are a comfortable way to travel in Dubai and taxi fares are reasonable when compared to many western countries. Official taxis are cream with coloured roofs (pink for women-only cabs) and are abundant throughout the city. Drivers are generally very courteous and helpful. The minimum fare is around AED 10 and may include additional charges for road tolls. Taxis can be reserved by SMS or by booking online - including services for travellers with special needs.
Car
Although road conditions in Dubai are world class, driving can be difficult here for the uninitiated. Traffic jams are common, drivers tend to speed and frequent construction issues make using a GPS systems problematic. If you decide to drive, there is metered on-street parking and parking buildings are clearly marked (and free for limited times at most malls). There is a zero-tolerance policy for driving under the influence (as there is throughout the country).

Downtown Dubai
The 830-metre high Burj Khalifa is the world’s tallest building (once). Dubai Mall is the world’s largest, a harmonious collision of 1,200 mid-to-high-end European and American brand name shops, including Bloomingdales. Visit Souk Al Bahar for traditional food or wares, or dine out in style at the eateries on Sheikh Mohammed Bin Rashid Boulevard.

Al Barsha
Al Barsha is a newly developed residential area and home base for many expatriates that work in nearby Dubai Internet City. The Mall of the Emirates is a huge attraction in this area, containing Ski Dubai, the region’s first indoor ski slope with real snow. Inside you’ll find cinemas and high-end international department stores.

Arabian Ranches
The palatial-style villas of the Arabian Ranches are occupied by Dubai’s elite. After shopping at the Village Community Centre outlets, visit the Dubai Equestrian and Polo Club – with 336 horse stables and world-class instructors. Nearby, the 18-hole Arabian Ranches Golf Club is a magnet for wealthy patrons who’ve come to perfect their swing.
Bur Dubai
Bur Dubai is an important legislative centre. You’ll find the Al Fahidi Historical District and the Dubai Museum nearby – a rich collection that chronicles the city’s development. Visit The Grand Mosque – with its enormous minarets – or the traditional textile souks, restaurants and shisha cafés lined around the Dubai Creek.
Business Bay
Business Bays’ fortunes faded after the global recession, but it’s emerging stronger than ever these days – it’s poised to become Dubai’s central business district in the near future. The area is filled with many residential and high-rise buildings in close proximity to the Burj Khalifa, Dubai Mall, Downtown and the Meydan Racecourse.
Deira
This area in ‘old Dubai’ offers a marked contrast to Downtown’s shiny newness. Be prepared to haggle in the traditional souks offering spices, textiles and gold jewellery. Wander along the port to watch fishermen transporting their wares on traditional dhows. Deira City Centre Mall offers dining and entertainment for the masses.

Note : Berhati-hati dengan orang2 yang offer tolong angkat barang dan carikan kita teksi di sekitar Naif Souk ~ mereka akan minta upah yang sangat tinggi (tidak berbaloi). Saya terkena AED30 sedangkan 1 plastik ja pun!

The Dubai Fountain
Landmarks
If this fountain were a Hollywood film, its name would be ‘Dances with Water’. Watch water transform into rainbow-coloured light rays that shoot upwards to the sound of world music. It’s a whimsical sight that will delight the whole family, especially during the evening shows from 18:00–23:00. Look familiar? The same company created Las Vegas’ Fountains of Bellagio.

Once you get over the 830-metre glass and metal façade emerging from the unforgiving Arabian Desert, you’ll find a curious collision of residential and commercial space inside, including At.mosphere, the world’s highest restaurant.

I want a [fill in the blank]! Travel to the four corners of the world in one day at the world’s largest mall, an elaborate building dedicated to the art of luxury shopping. Take a gander in department stores including Bloomingdales and Marks & Spencer, ice-skate opposite Hershey’s, become a pinball wizard at Sega Republic … or go wild on Fashion Avenue!

Dubai Creek
Golf courses
The only thing bigger than the Dubai Creek is the question of how to cross it. Travel by water-taxi, yacht or luxury liner through this body of water that divides Bur Dubai from Deira. If you prefer to walk, Al Maktoum and Al Garhoud Bridges, the Business Bay Crossing and Floating Bridge provide thoroughfares while you look out at the 5-star hotels along the shoreline.

Popular areas
Magpies will find more shiny objects here than they can possibly carry – so why not pick up what they left behind? This emporium is devoted to the sale of gold and jewellery and is teeming with opulence. If you have the Midas Touch and a friendly smile, haggle your way to a bargain. The Government keeps a tight grip on quality, so you're buying the real McCoy!

Wild Wadi Water Park
Attractions
Wild Wadi was so wild, but wilder still was Nasreddin, the satirist of Arabian folklore who inspired this waterpark. You’ll find 30 rides and attractions designed for family fun, centred on water-related activities. Break a wave with simulated surfing at the Wipeout FlowRider, ride a water rollercoaster on the Master Blasters or wind down at one of the three on-site eateries.

Souk Madinat Jumeirah

Dynamic, dimly lit and divinely scented, a trip to the souk is a must. 'Souk' is Arabic for 'marketplace', and in this high-end market you'll find everything from incense to hookahs, luxury textiles to homeware. The next best thing to staying at the shark-fin shaped 7-star Burj Al Arab hotel next door is admiring it from one of Madinat Jumeirah's fabulous lounges.

Ski Dubai
Attractions
Your ice-cream might melt in 45 degree heat outside, but this indoor ski field stays frozen year-round. Located inside the Mall of the Emirates, get geared up then take the ski lift to the top of the 85-metre-high indoor mountain. Try your luck on one of 5 slopes of varying difficulty. If you’re not the skiing type, stay downstairs and play with a super-cute penguin!

Aquaventure Water Park
Attractions
Aquaventure Waterpark removes all of the pesky ‘danger stuff’ that comes with actual white-water rafting. Take a leisurely slide down the Middle-East’s longest zip-line, risk life and limb at the Tower of Neptune’s water slide through shark infested waters (in the safety of a one or two-person inner tube), or relax by swimming with dolphins or laying low on the private beach.
