FLORENCE DAY 2 ~ MUSEUM AND ARTS LOVER

26th May 2013.

Struggle to be awake early in the morning. The weather was cold and tempts us to snuggle under the blanket. We slept quite late the night before, very tired and last night watched the European Cup Final on TV. Thank God my team won.

Hmmmm...everybody was lazy to make the first move to check our breakfast at the kitchen, just outside our door. But wake up we must , because at 10am we have to be at meeting point for "skip the queue" entering Micheal Angelo Museum by Viator. After reading reviews on the long queue to buy tickets entrance in most famous attractions, I decided to purchased the tickets in advance to save time. we don't have much time to lose; with so many things to do.

I will do a nice write up later about this. Right now I'm a bit sleepy and blurry (2:07am). In few minutes I will go down to have my early Sahur.

Enjoy the teaser here.

We are a bit early for the meeting. Everybody busy doing their own interest.

Can you see the long queue? In front of Dali?

The face of David by Micheal Angelo.

FLORENCE ITALY

We started our journey to Florence on 25th May 2013 by train.
Why Florence? One may ask.

Florence is above all a city of art. Florence is the birthplace of many famous people such as Dante, Boccaccio, Machaivelli and Galileo Galilei. Florence was made more beautiful by the works of art of Michelangelo, Brunelleschi, Botticelli, Donatello and Giotto.' Whoever visits Florence cannot ever be deluded. This thanks to its cultural and artistic inheritance almost unique in Europe and in the world, which has its base in the middle age and its maximum glory in the Renaissance. Florence and Rome are the history of Florentian civility. In Florence , in the XV century, bases were set to reflourish art and culture, here thanks to writers like Dante, Petrarca and Macchaivelli, culture and the Italian language were born. Artists like Botticelli , Michelangelo and Donatello made Florence to be one of the artistic capitals in the world.

Florence was founded by the Romans in the 59B.C. and called Florentia . You can see 'Cardo Maximus' in the actual street Strozzi, street degli Speziali and street del Corso; and the 'Decumanus' in street Calimala, street Roma, and street Por Santa Maria. In the actual ' Place of Repubblica' the Foro was found during the imperial period the city increased its richness, it became an active commercial centre where handicraftsmen worked and made Florence famous. During the Barbarian invasion the city occupied by Ostrogoti, Byzantine and Goth of Totila. It was in that period that the inhabitants gathered around the Bishops, in the monasteries, which became centres of culture and work. The Longobardi conquered it later in the VI century and only later the city emerged from the darkness of the middle age into an independent sate. After the Longobardi were defeated by the Franchi, the Duke was substituted by a count; later the counts were substituted by the Marquis. Florence reached the height of its glory between the XI and XV century, becoming one of the main centres of power in Italy, balancing between the authority of Emperors and Popes, superating the fear of the struggling between the Guelfi and Ghibeliini.

In the XV century Florence passed under the Signoria dei Granduchi di Tuscany. Lorence and the rest of Tuscany remained under the dominium of Medici for three centuries. In this period the city was at the height of its glory, from the artistic, political and economical point of view, the city developed in an enormous way: painters, sculptors and architects filled roads, churches and palace with the greatest works of art of the Renaissance. In the Granducato dei medici was succeeded by the Loren in the XVIII century, whose Granducato lasted until 1860, in the year in which Florence was the capital from 1865 to 1871.

Facts about Florence:

I bought our fast train tickets from Select Italy long before We depart to Italy. It's easy and you can secured your seat in advance. Choose the 2nd class seat but still very comfortable and spacious. So no complain. By the way, this is my first time on train.... Seronoklah pulak..kannnn.

Gambar kat bawah ni di Station Santa Lucia Venice. Mula-mula tu ralat juga ingatkan ticket printout tu perlu di stamped and verify kat counter. Rupanya tak perlu. So klik..klik dulu lah buat kenangan.

Sorry ya. I'm not a good story teller.

Ini dalam train dah.... 2nd class.

Me early in the morning. Masih fresh lagi.

Arrived at Santa Maria Novella Station around 3.30pm. Stesen ni tak besar sangat. Besarkan je mata tengok sign board mana nak dapat teksi. Just follow the crowds supaya selamat.

Mula-mula sampai kat stesen sehingga 100m pertama, I tertanya-tanya juga apa bestnya Florence ni? cam biasa2 jerrrr... ?

Kami tinggal di BB Florence Bed & Breakfast.

VENICE DAY 3: LAST DAY

Saturday 25th May 2013.

Our last day in Venice. Our next destination is Florence. I feel aggrieved leaving because there is still much yet to be explored. But time does not permit. Perhaps another time, if I got the opportunity will be here much longer.

Today we'll continue our journey to Florence by fast train Trenitalia. Will depart at 1.30pm. After breakfast, we check-out (9am) and go to the Water Bus terminal at Rialto Bridge Line 2 to Santa Lucia Train Station.

Before boarding the Water Bus, make sure to scan your ticket by the machine reader (forgot the name, sorry) just outside the bus stop, near the ticketing counter.

This is why you have to travel light in Venice.

I dah perasaan jadi angelina Jolie

Train from Venice to Florence is Via Roma Termini. You can easily purchase the train ticket from ticketing machine or over the counter, but because I'm a first timer (novice) I bought everything in advance before departures.

Two and a half hours later,  we arrive at Santa Maria Novella  Station in Florence.

VENICE DAY 2 : AFTERNOON IN VENICE

VENICE DAY 2 : MORNING IN VENICE ~ EXPLORING

On our second day in Venice, we already were able to adapt to the environment and how to act as an Italians but does not look like trying too much. Indeed, the city of Venice is unlike any other city I've ever visited. The path is filled with narrow lanes and alleys like you are in the world of Alice in Wonderland. If not careful you will easily get lost. However, it is not a problem because in the end, you will be able to find the way back to your hotel. Piazza San Marco is the best bench marks to facilitate your navigation around Venice. Just keep your bearing right. It is the only Piazza in Venice. So, in my humble opinion,  The Rialto Brigde area is the best place to stay in this city.

Piazza San Marco

The Bassilica

The Doge Palaces

Early in the morning in Piazza San Marco

The alleys and narrow path lanes.

Let's us now explore Venice.

The Cafe in front of Piazza San Marco, with live band serenade love songs. Once you sit, you were viable to pays Euro6 per pax for the music! And tax are not included in the bills....hehehehe...so get ready with your extra euro. (Tips: I read somewhere (local journal) saying that do not eat or dine before 8pm in Venice because during that time foods prices are slightly more expansive).

The weather is so unpredictable. End of May supposed to be sunny and warmer but during our visits, the weather was/is crazy (said one local Italiano). It is raining constantly, very cold (like winter) and Venice flooded especially in the afternoon and night.

If you love shopping whilst on the go.... here we are. Let me show you the best of Venice shopping splurge extravaganza. I compared prices here and Milan; Venice prices are lower by euro50 on most designer labels.

Hmmmm... to enter or not to enter? Btw... do you notice the Italian guy? that's how they dress themselves~ always stylo

 Another kaki shopping

My Birthday Present To Myself
But worth every penny. Cheaper than KL and you can get 15% discount on the spot and VAT rebate. Only in Venice. You see? I'm very good at finding a reason to justify my craziness. I just could not help it. Bags are my biggest weaknesses.

One Happy famiy

Don't forget to claim your VAT.

Now time to lunch. Pasta again? We decided to lunch at HRC. It was raining heavily.

Beautiful Senorita.

Rain continued.  Go back to our room to rest, pray and change.
